Dan Morand has had the privilege of spending a lifetime doing what he loves to do most – telling people that they are loved, that they are worth much in God’s eyes and that they have been forgiven. Dan is quick to tell anyone that having faith is not about church or which denomination you are affiliated with but simply having a personal relationship with Jesus.
Dan grew up knowing that there was a call on his life by the age of 10, however, it would be years before he would really understand what God wanted from him. Raised in a loving, rural family, he went through some rebellious teen years with alcohol and only saw God as someone to fear and bargain with. Struggles with low self-esteem, mild depression, anger and divorce were things he believed that were unforgivable, but God wasn’t done with him just yet.
It was when Dan remarried years later, that he renewed his faith. He was baptized shortly after and thus his heart began to open to God again. It was then that he began to remember that call God had had on his life so long ago. He started working for a ministry and the rest is…well, history.
Dan is a father of four, grandfather to 3 (and counting) and a father figure to many men and women from the streets and shelters. University, college and ministry educated, Dan will be quick to tell you that he has learned far more about life from the people he has given his life to working with and has taught him so much more than any book or course would have ever. That saying… “Been there done that”….is true to form for Dan. He has lived from Vancouver, BC to Gander, NL and truly understands our wonderful country. He has worked in factories, warehouses, retail, hospitality, healthcare, education (secondary and post-secondary) and sales. He jokes that this wide range of experience helps him hold a conversation with anyone. Dan became a pastor 10 years ago and has worked with everyone from those in the business sector to the homeless….all in need of the same thing….Jesus.
Dan is an author, teacher, facilitator, speaker, humorist, advocate and above all….. a cheerleader! He is straight to the point and lovingly holds people accountable. He challenges people to move forward towards what God has designed them to be. Transparency and being authentic are Dan’s keys to success with people. “In order to be respected, you have to respect first.” Dan
Dan is a pastor at Beth Emanuel Church in London, ON where he has birthed The Urban Haven Project where he comes across hundreds of people each day that are lost, lonely and searching for something more than what this life has to offer. “We have all made our mistakes, yet we have a God that chases after us. We all have a unique relationship with Him that is like no other.” Dan. He offers hope through his own testimony and facilitates a discipleship 12-step group called Overcomers, which he is the Canadian Program Director for the London area chapter.
The purpose of this blog is to give you a glimpse of God’s promises to us so you understand that we are not alone. “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14 1-30
Each week I will give you a glimpse into the world of an Urban Street Pastor and life in a marginalized community to prove that God is indeed alive! This blog will also include prayer request from the readers of this blog and more importantly, the answers to those prayers.
